"Well, well, Player. It appears that there was some kind of crystal matrix being found in the universe that we hadn't heard of before. This obviously concerns the Pax, as we consider ourselves the masters of such things.
From reports that we have had these crystal matrices were originally so good to be almost untrue! However, we suspect that they were a cunning plan by the UrQa and were actually degrading into something far worse. The UrQa often do this, to spread strife and war within a universe that they're seeking to conquer. Who can forget in universe SCII, when the UrQa gave the Spati what they thought was the "Ultimate weapon"?!?
Many Spati were lost that day, I can tell you.
I can imagine that anyone who found one of these energies might be seeing a drastic reduction in their effectiveness over time. They might even be ranting and raving by now!
I need you to find me one of these matrices and I'll need to construct a grid of non-reactive elements to measure the refractive index as opposed to other, more common, crystals naturally occuring in the universe. I'll bounce energetic particles off each type of crystal and the matrix and compare the results: don't worry, you'll get the matrix back at the end. Hmm. Diamonds are a carbon crystalline structure... we'll have to get some of those as well. A good point to make is that even after research, I think only Capital ships or those using multiple weapons will benefit from this particular type of matrix.
